Made a pact with my fiancée to wait until Christmas to play Pokémon Y, as that’s when she’ll be buying a 3DS XL and Pokémon X. Pokémon Y is sitting on the dresser, right now, fucking tempting me.
Hawlucha became my new favourite Pokémon as soon as I saw the first leaked images of it. I spend two days freaking out in case it was fake. Hawlucha will likely replace my starter as my ‘ace’ Pokémon. Chesnaught, Delphox and Greninja don’t particularly appeal to me - as much as I love Chespin and Quilladin - so I will be boxing / trading away my Kalos starter.
Crustle and Galvantula are my ultimate bros and have been on every team I’ve had since Gen V first came out (my Crustle in my current Black 2 team is the single best Pokémon I have ever had). I originally wanted to use Heliolisk in place of Galvantula, but it wouldn’t feel right having Crustle without Galvantula or vice versa.
As soon as I saw Trevenant I fell in love with it and knew it had to take a spot on my team regardless of how good it was. I have a particular love for Grass-type Pokémon and plants in general, and have wanted a treant Pokémon for years. If it doesn’t work out with Trevenant, I’ll replace it with another of my favourite Pokémon: Ferrothorn.
Clawitzer's position on my team was earned more or less the same way Trevenant's was: as soon as I saw Clauncher I wanted it on my team, and even more so when Clawitzer was leaked. Clauncher/Clawitzer now rival Frillish/Jellicent for the position of my favourite Water-type Pokémon. If it doesn't work out with Clawitzer, I'll replace it with Jellicent.
These five Pokémon are the definite members of my team, but I’m not sure what to use for my sixth slot. I’ve considered using Venusaur, so I’ll actually make use of Mega Evolution and have a strong Poison-type for combating Fairy-types. Other Pokémon considered for the sixth slot are…
Flygon: One of my favourite Pokémon, recently lost its position as my #1 favourite to Hawlucha and has been my ‘signature Pokémon’ for a while now. The only thing holding me back from just adding a Flygon to the team is how weak it’ll make the team to Fairy and Ice-types.
Ferrothorn: Among my top five favourite Pokémon, and also an essential member of my Black 2 team. It’d mainly be on the team to Gyro Ball Fairy-types into the next life.
Dragalge: As much as I see Crustle and Galvantula as an inseparable duo, I’m beginning to see Dragalge and Clawitzer the same way. Despite the weaknesses to Fairy and Ice-type moves it would add, that I was trying to avoid by not including Flygon, it’s Poison-type and could come in pretty handy.
Florges: I love the design of the Pokémon (as well as Flabébé and Floette) and I’d like to try using a Fairy-type. I do feel Florges should’ve been Fairy/Grass-type because the Shiny Stone has caused her to merge with her flower, but that would only quadruple the Poison-type damage and put her at an even greater disadvantage against Fire-types.
Sylveon: Who hasn’t considered using Sylveon in X and Y?
Another potential is leaving the slot open for the addition of more Mega Pokémon that I’d want to use. If the developers already plan to release more Mega Pokémon as was revealed by Mega Latios and Mega Latias being leaked (don’t know if it’s been confirmed as real yet, can’t be arsed checking) then there’s a good chance they’re going to release Mega Stones for Sceptile and Swampert to complete the Hoenn trio, and I’d definitely add a Sceptile (I fucking love Sceptile) to my team if it received a Mega Evolution.
This post ended up a lot longer than I anticipated, probably because I can’t sleep and I am absurdly excited about playing Pokémon Y.
